DARE TO SHARE

About

Dare to Share (2014) is an experimental project about how design can be a platform to encourage people to express and share their dreams, hopes and wishes that might otherwise be forgotten or kept safely to themselves.

Dare to Share is the title of MA project by Listya Amelia, recently graduated student at Kunst-og Designhøgskolen i Bergen, (KHiB) Norway. In her thesis, she questions “How can I use design as a tool to communicate people’s dreams into a meaningful message?” The thesis critically discusses the reflection of Graphic Designer’s role in society, with a purpose to raise design thinking by focusing on the spiritual value, rather than economical value. Led by her critical reflection as a Graphic Designer, and curiosity about people’s dreams today, she creates a digital platform (www.daretoshare.it), which is aimed to encourage and facilitate people to express and share their ideas, and imagination of dreams, hopes, and wishes. Moreover, she interprets the material (collections of people’s dreams, hopes, wishes) into a visual exploration (Visual Book and Object). To go further, the purpose of this project is to create a meaningful message as an inspiring experience, and self-reflection.

Dare to Share Thesis

This is the final thesis of my MA project (Dare to Share) at Kunst-og Designhøgskolen i Bergen, Norway, which questions ”How can I use design as a tool to communicate people’s dreams in a meaningful message?” This thesis critically discusses the reflection of Graphic Designer’s role in society, with a purpose to raise design thinking by focusing on the spiritual value, rather than mere economical value, in the hope of creating a meaningful message as an inspiring experience, and self-reflection.

Dare to Share Website

Dare to Share Website is an experimental digital platform which is aimed to encourage and facilitate people to express and share their ideas and imagination of dreams, hopes and wishes. This platform was born out of my inquiry if I could use a digital platform (website) to widen people’s closed horizons to afford them self-evident right to aspire to dream. Currently, there are more than 280 dreams submitted from 19 different countries around the world. www.daretoshare.it

Dare to Share Visual Book (Visual Interpretation)

Dare to Share Visual Book is a part of my visual interpretation series from Dare to Share Project. The book contains visual interpretation of selected people’s dreams/hopes/wishes that have been shared through Dare to Share website (www.daretoshare.it)

Dare to Share Object (Visual Interpretation)

This is an exploration object as a part of my visual interpretation series from Dare to Share Project. A hand made (plaster-based material) egg sculpture as an interpretation of people’s dreams into an object. I chose eggs as a representation of fragile, raw, newborn objects that fit the ideas of dreams, hopes and wishes. I made approximately 80 eggs as a reward for people who have contributed to Dare to Share Project at USF, Verftet gallery, Bergen, Norway.

Dare to Share Activity in Public Spaces (2013-2014).

As a part of the experiment series from Dare to Share Project, this activity have an attempt to create public conscious, by spreading people’s dreams in a fluorescent flyer, in order to make people stop from their journey and read people’s dreams. By reading people’s dreams, my attention is to create an inspirational experience for people to start wonder and reflect about their won dreams, hopes, and wishes.
