“First Graduate” Identity by Henricus Kusbiantoro Won Gold Award 2009 GRAPHIS International Publication

2009 GRAPHIS International Design Annual based in New York City and originally from Switzerland awards First Graduate Identity for Gold Award–Best Corporate Identity System. The Visual Identity of First Graduate was created by Bandung–Born Henricus Kusbiantoro (Identity Designer, Art Director) and Paul Chock (Creative Director) and the designer’s team at Landor Associates – headquarter San Francisco.

2009 Graphis Design Annual Winners also honors an international trio of Designers as New York’s Stefan Sagmeister, Korea’s Ahn Sang-Soo, and Pentagram London’s Harry Pearce present their sagacious views on Design under the theme of “What’s Personal Is Universal.” The Annual features the year’s best Design work — 127 Graphis Gold Award winners and 10 Platinum Award winners — representing 30-plus Design categories, ranging from Packaging, Annual Reports and Branding to Posters, Logos, and even Music CDs. Industry standouts include Ogilvy, TAXI Canada, Frost Design, BBDO, Melchior Imboden, Spark Studio, Turner Duckworth, and RBMM, among many others. Detailed credits and indices round up this comprehensive volume, making Design 2009 an essential guide for Designers, Art Directors, Photographers, students, and potential clients.

Graphis, The International Journal of Visual Communication, was first published in 1944 by Walter Herdeg in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1986, B. Martin Pedersen was given the opportunity to purchase Graphis. He has since further developed the magazine and books and relocated the headquarters to New York City.

BACKGROUND
First Graduate, previously known as the Bay Area Youth Fund for Education, a San Francisco-based, nonprofit organization has a mission is to help young people finish high school and become the first in their families to graduate from college; the organization also announced that its inaugural class of students begins college this fall. The identity was launched in May 2007 at the Old Federal Reserve Bank–San Francisco by the former President of Peru and Politician, Alejandro Toledo.

Saat ini bekerja sebagai senior art director di Landor Headquarter Brand Consultant San Francisco dan pengajar di program master desain grafis Academy of Art University. Henricus yang juga alumnus Wolff Olins Brand Consultant New York (2002-06) memulai karier desain grafis di LeBoYe Jakarta (1996) sebelum akhirnya hijrah ke New York dan bekerja di biro legendaris Pushpin Studio dan Chermayeff Geismar New York. Di tahun 2007, Henricus Kusbiantoro meraih penghargaan desain grafis internasional D&AD London–Merit Award dan New York’s Art Director Club (ADC) untuk Kampanye Global RED – AIDS Afrika. Jebolan desain grafis ITB Bandung dan Pratt Institute New York – Asia HELP Scholarship 1998 kini menetap di San Francisco bersama Yuliana dan Theo.
